Contrasting colors and Tonal colors

Contrasting colors are those which lie on the opposite sides of the color wheel. Some of the contrasting colors are (red and green), (blue and yellow), (orange and purple) etc. For producing vibrancy in a space, contrasting colors are used.

Tonal colors are different shaded colors of same main color group. Using tonal colors might end up giving very little definition to the different elements located in a space. Texture becomes very important in terms of defining different elements in this case.

Some scientific data, Genes for red and green sensitive photo pigments are located on the X-chromosomes. Men have one X-chromosome while women have two X-chromosomes. 8% of men have some sort of red-green color deficiency which is slightly less than 0.5% for women. That’s why women are more preferred to choose colors.
