Don't know about India. But it's sure that the best college for Architecture in United Kingdom is "University of Cambridge". I think it's the world's best.
And in United States the best college for Architecture is "Columbia University" and "Princeton University". Harvard University and Yale University are next on line.
In India I suppose it's SPA....

Yes in India it's School of Planning and Architecture, New Delhi also known as SPA. It is also one the best Architecture College in Asia.
To get admission in SPA Undergraduate program you have to appear for AIEEE-Architecture (All India Engineering Entrance Examination for Architecture). Top 150 ranks get through to SPA.

Please could you tell me what are the minimum marks required to secure above 150 rank in AIEEE . This year maths section was bit tough so could you tell me what are the other good architecture colleges in India apart from SPA. Colud you also tell me what is the admission procedure for JJ College of Architecture if you know. Please tell me it would be of great assistance to me.

There is nothing as minimum marks which are required...it highly depends on the difficulty of the paper...if more tough questions are asked it will surely go up..so dont be tensed...and best of luck for your results..
I am very sorry that i dont know the admission procedure...but you can post a new forum topic asking people for the procedure...some jj guy will correspond to you as people here believe in sharing information...
Dude believe me cept(center for enviornment plannning) is the best school in the country and amongst the best in world as well ( i dont hail from this school so please dont make it an immature personal argument as above ) the beauty of cept is that it has a school of thaught as shared by other great institutes like bauhaus there are some excellent faculties there with a sprawling meticulous campus . also a lot of exchange progrrames are availaible which can see you going on a free trip to europe the exposure is great during this period...................... it truly is one of the finest schools of architecture and as for entrance all schools of architecture have to now onwards compulsarly accept students thorugh a common admission test in architecture called nata
I think CEPT is the best in India followed by CCA and Sushant School of Art and Architecture.

Even this new college opened up 2 years ago called Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University...being new it has good infrastructure and above all there isn't any quota system existing...

Its with great disappointment that I have to say that I have secured a rank in architecture exam of 6491 and stare rank (UP) of 548. At this rank could you tell me what can I expect. I know SPA Delhi is a distant dream. Which colleges can I expect or i will get no govt college. I am giving NATA on 14 of June. Could you tell me how should I prepare for that so that I can get CEPT, Ahmedabad. I think I attempted too many questions in AIEEE in my anxiety to secure good score which resulted in such a pathetic rank. Plz guide me further. Need Help.

The admissions for cept and jj are strange, since there is a state government stranglehold, the admissions for people from other states are extremely low.... for jj through maharch cet and cept has something similar.
why dont u give nata.. and then apply in gujarat and few more states.. if ur rank will be good u will get in cept or msuor u can also try for other colleges one in vda ie vadodara design academy where i study its a upcoming college and trust me a really good college wid gr8 faculties..

Hey man...i think its not good to only allow architecture students to join this place... BTW, there should be a place for non-arch people to know more about architecture (i think this is a good place for the upcoming architecture students to more about the field of architecture before they take their vital decision about making a career in this field...)

I really dont think architecture forum is a great hang out place for non architecture students. If somebody needs councelling, we can open a new councelling thread but seriously not the arch forum. Arch forum should have some more really serious topics running on. Well i dont know about you guys, but at least i am not here just to spend some time...

Hi! CEPT is absolutely NOT the best.........it may have been once though, but the quality since has deteriorated and that too quite fast.....i think i know why. CEPT is not taking in the best......its selection is through NATA and has 40 seats for people who have passed their 12th 4m Gujarat............and goddamn 2 seats(open category/non sc st) for the rest of india. No wonder the best are left out!! odd in'nit? Only a sprawling campus wont do much-you have to bring in the best too, na!
On top of it, accordin' to me NATA is a poor measure of one's arch aptitude...... it better measures drawing aptitude.......which is why spa has most intelligently stuck with the much better aieee arch entrance exam

mathurutsav, i think u r right reguarding NATA being a measure of drawing applitude rather than architectural applitude, but with poor drawing capabilities of aieee students, the standard of colleges like SPA has also deteriorated over time. NATA was founded only to avoid engineering stream students from opting architecture. And SPA has maintained its reputation of the best architectural school of india only because of its exceptional faculty staff and the immense support which the newcomers get from their seniors and passouts, otherwise today even the SPA wouldnt have been THE SPA...
this time, our profession seriously needs an satisfactory enterance test for architecture colleges, which tests the iq of applicants from their level, yet fix some standard of drawing skills simultaneously....
but in the end, truth remains truth...........

The AIEEE arch entrance test is made up of 3 parts.
1.Maths Geometry questions (30, to be precise;none in NATA)
which is absolutely and undoubtedly essential, i'm sure you'l l agree. totally missing from NATA.
2. Arch aptitude questions(about 30 again; 3-5 in NATA)........excellent questions, truly check your perception quite effectively. Again, such well framed quest. r missin' from NATA.
3. Drawing tests(mindya full 100 marks, 3 questions in this part!! No less a measuring scale in drawing abilities.......;NATA has mostly these quest.)
!!What I'm tryin' to emphasize is that NATA has NO scale to measure one 'so essential' geometry and calculative skills, AIEEE Arch. beating it full and out!!
Though i'd like to agree with you that a better test should be coined.......start a forum on this one!!

Forget about new colleges try for reputed colleges, we all use to live on the edge for securing admission.
You should try at School of Architecture, Arvid Bhai Institute of Enviornmental Design : it has a decent cozy campus which is cut off from the hoch poch of city life although lying inside a small town it has nice facilities and some good faculties its nice to spend five years in a dignified college ike this and to come out a quite cutoff but artistically rooted architect.

Vineela, first of all congrats...well done..to get into SPA, attend the AIEEE counselling....there is no other way of getting into that college...and achu...sorry dude...your chances of getting into the nit's is bit low...i know this is straight on your face but i would rather give u the true picture than giving false hope...anyways, try for the relatively new colleges...
Hey i got an all india rank of 2303 and state rank of 214.
I know SPA is an impossible dream but can i make it to CCA with this rank?
CCA has just got 5 seats for outsiders and I really have no idea what rank is needed to make it to that place.
Moreover i have scored 105 in NATA and 82% in CBSE 12th...
What are the other options for me?
And in case i get a choice between Sushant and CCA which one should i go for?

Just check AIEEE official website and check "opening and closing rank 2008" to get a clear idea of where you stand and where you might just get through as they have the complete details of last year's counselling.
And the trend remains the same more or less every year.
Does any one have any idea about College of Engineering, Trivandrum.

I got AIR rank 994 in architecture, and i was thinking of taking admission in SPA Delhi.
I just wanted to know that whether it is a good college, although everywhere i found that its the best college of arch in India, but i wanted to know from you guys, is it hard to study there?

In all their discussion people have forgotten about IIT kharagpur and IIT Rorkee, I think its just because its not through AIEEE.
But I would like to tell the Architecture aspirants, if you really want to be an Architect.
Why settle for the second best - go for JEE, crack it and get into IIT.
One of the World's most premiere institute, and a completely different experience in itself.
